REMINDER: New Location for Departmental Graduation Ceremony! For this Spring the Physics graduation ceremony will be in the Science House- Suite 1200, Research Building 4 on Centennial campus on May 20 at 1:30 PM. The usual reception will follow, outside on the patio area if the weather is good, otherwise inside. (Recall there will be no power in Cox Hall that weekend, so our usual location, Cox 206, was not an option). The main University ceremony will be in the new arena, starting at 9:00 AM. Please participate by joining the faculty processional.

Congratulations to John Blondin, named as an Outstanding Teacher for 1999-2000 and a new member of the NC State Academy of Outstanding Teachers.

Congratulations to Steve Reynolds, selected as Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor.

FINAL REMINDER! Power Outage in Cox Hall. There will be no electrical power at all in Cox Hall from 5:00 PM Wednesday, May 17 through 7:00 AM Tuesday, May 23 to allow the main building electrical panel to be replaced as part of the Cox-Dabney Air Quality Improvement project. Dabney Hall should not be affected by this power outage.

Physics 452, Advanced Lab, project presentations will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 8:30-11:00 AM in Withers 135. All are invited to attend.

This year, we will have presentations on scanning tunneling microscopy, a DC jumping ring, superconductivity, thin metal film resistivity, muon lifetime, internal photoemission, and optical thin film multilayers.

No Air Conditioning: Floor Schedule: As part of the Cox-Dabney Air Quality Improvement project, it will be necessary to disconnect the air handlers on each floor in Cox, which will result in no air conditioning on the affected floors during that time. The schedule for the no-ac periods is as follows:

6th FloorJune 26 to August 11
