Welcome to Spring 2004!
Best wishes to Elizabeth Rieg, leaving as the Director of the Physics Tutorial Center to get married and move to Mississippi.
Beth has been the Director of the PTC since 1991, a facility recognized throughout the NC State campus and among physics departments nationwide for outstanding work.
AFCI University Fellowship Program:
Master's degree students are encouraged to apply for the Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative (AFCI) University Fellowship Program.
The Fellowships provide support to students who are or will be pursuing master's degrees in the fall of 2004 in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or Radiochemistry, and are taking nuclear engineering courses as part of their master's degree program.
Preferred undergraduate degrees include Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry and Radiochemistry.
Approximately 7 Fellows will be selected. AFCI Fellows will receive up to $42,500 for up to 18 months, which includes a monthly stipend and funds for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and AFCI related travel. The Physics Tutorial Center (PTC) will open Monday, January 20 (tentative), hours to be announced. Lisa Lowe will serve as Acting PTC Director for the Spring Semester.
Faculty please note that the PTC is now located in the new Undergraduate Science Teaching Laboratory building (USTL).
100-200 Level PY labs have MOVED!
Important note: All labs for PY131, 205, 208, 211, and 212 that were scheduled for Withers Hall have been moved to the USTL.
Students' schedules will still say "Withers", so professors teaching any of these classes please be sure to mention the changed location to your students.
Faculty Meeting dates for Spring Semester. The Physics Department's faculty meetings will be in Cox 400 at 4:00 p.m. on the following dates (all are Wednesdays):
January 14
February 4
March 3
April 7
Some dates to remember:
January 16: Last day to add without permission of instructor
January 19: No Class
January 27: Last day to add a course.
February 24: Last day to drop without a grade.
