The L.H. Thomas Lecture “The State of String Theory”, delivered by noted science writer Brian Greene, will be held on Monday, January 23rd, at 4:00 PM in Dabney Hall room 124. 

 

A second talk for the general public, entitled “The Fabric of the Cosmos” will follow at 6:00 PM in Stewart Theater. 

 

The LH Thomas Lecture banquet will begin at 8:00 PM.

 

 

Calling 911 on Campus

 

It is now possible to contact Campus Police by dialing 911 on campus.  The old emergency number, 5-3333, also continues to work.

 

In any emergency, dial either 911 or 5-3333 on campus for help.

Accommodations for students with disabilities.

Integrative Graduate and Research  Traineeship

 

NSF has announced that there will be a limit of 4 preliminary proposal per institution for the 2006 Integrative Graduate and Research Traineeship program (IGERT). Interested faculty must notify Research and Grants of their intent to apply by contacting Carol Ashcraft at carol_ashcraft@ncsu.edu

 no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, January 23rd.

 

 

Administrative Change.

 

After 3.5 years of service, Charles Johnson is stepping down as Director of Undergraduate Programs.  The department is grateful for all the Charles has done in this demanding position.  We thank him for his long hours of dedicated efforts.  We are pleased to announce that Stephen Reynolds has agreed to serve as interim director.  Please join us in welcoming and supporting Steve as he assumes the duties of the position.
