Applications for the Jefferson Science Fellowships are due by December 1st.

Happy Birthday to  John Blondin  (10/29)

John Hubisz was interviewed on KMBZ in Kansas City about security and safety at nuclear research reactors on college campuses, a piece prompted by the ABC-TV report.

The University’s Open House was held at the Talley Student Center on Saturday, October 15th.  This year seemed to have had the largest number of prospective students attending than anytime in recent years.  The Physics display was visited quite often, with more than 100 copies of the recruiting brochure taken by students expressing an interest in Physics.  Thanks to Matt Corne and Robert Egler for manning the physics display.

Shrimp-eroo – Wednesday, November 2.  Pullen Park shelter number 5, 11:30 to 1:30.

Professor Russell Philbrick of Penn State (an alumnus of our department) will be visiting on sabbatical for the Spring semester.

Recycling bins are changing.

The office of recycling has developed a new, simplified recycling program.. There will be only 3 types of bins, Cans and Bottles, Mixed paper (magazines, books etc), and Sorted Paper (white and colored office paper)  Look for the new bins in the near future!

Kudos to Marco Buongiorno-Nardelli for a very successful workshop on “Nanotechnology for Energy and Environment", held October 26, 2005 on NC State’s Centennial Campus

This workshop look at defining potential partnerships,  within the University and local community, who would support,  contribute, and benefit from a concerted effort within NC State to  seek Center-level funding in the area of nanotechnology for energy  and environment applications.
