Computer Theft Warning! Campus Police have advised that there has been a rash of computer thefts on campus, both laptop and desktop machines. The principle feature connecting the thefts is that all were taken from offices or classrooms that were left unlocked during the day.
BE SURE to close and lock your office door when you leave for any length of time, and be sure to lock doors to classrooms with computers when they are empty.
Neither the University nor the Physics Department carries insurance on the office and classroom computers.
Current Cox-Dabney AC project schedule. At present, the schedule for the remaining floors of Cox Hall are as follows:
4th floor work completed: October 13
3rd floor work completed: November 6
2nd floor work started: October 16

Please note that while all major work is to be completed by the stated dates, some minor work will continue on all floors until the end of the project. Additionally, the temperature on the individual floors will not be fully adjustable until the system is balanced at the very end of the project.
Your patience during this long project is appreciated.
FACULTY POSITIONS OPEN:
The Department of Physics at NC State University foresees a period of growth and is seeking highly qualified applicants for tenure-track and tenured positions. Successful applicants will have strong commitments to excellence in teaching and will be expected to establish a vigorous research program. The Department has active and internationally recognized groups in computational physics, condensed matter and materials physics (theoretical and experimental), nuclear physics (theoretical and experimental), physics education research, and theoretical astrophysics. Outstanding candidates in these and other areas of physics (particularly biological physics, nanoscale physics, and interdisciplinary research) are encouraged to apply. We plan to hire primarily at the assistant professor level, but we will also consider particularly qualified senior applicants. NC State University is one of the vertices of the Research Triangle, the other two being the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University, Durham. The Triangle is also home to many industrial research campuses and numerous federal and state research organizations. The quality of life in the Raleigh area has consistently been acclaimed in national surveys. Candidates should send a curriculum vitae, a brief summary of research and teaching goals, and a list of at least three references to: Physics Search Committee, Department of Physics, Box 8202, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC 27695-8202. Minimum qualifications include an earned
Ph.D. degree in physics or equivalent. In order to receive full consideration, applications for the fall 2001 academic year should be received by Jan 31, 2001.
