Student Organizations

Society of Physics Students

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a professional association explicitly designed for students. Membership, through collegiate chapters, is open to anyone interested in physics. The only requirement for membership is that you be interested in physics. Besides physics majors, our members include majors in chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, mathematics, medicine, and other fields.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (REU)

The Physics Department welcomes applications for its Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (REU), supported by the National Science Foundation. Opportunities are available in condensed matter and materials physics, atomic and nuclear physics, optics and astrophysics.

Student Resources

Webassign

WebAssign unlocks the door to a new way of teaching to a classroom without walls, where time isn't a boundary and record keeping is no longer a constraint. Our unparalleled homework delivery service harnesses the power of the Internet and puts it to work for you. Collecting and grading homework become the province of the WebAssign service, which gives you the freedom to get back to teaching.

Physics and Mathematics Tutorial Center

The Physics and Mathematics Tutorial Center (PMTC) is a learning center for students enrolled in introductory physics and math courses at NC State. Located in 150 Undergraduate Science Teaching Lab (USTL) Building, the PMTC offers a variety of services, including free tutoring on a walk-in basis (no appointment needed).

The Science House

The Science House is a learning outreach program of North Carolina State University. The mission of The Science House is to work with K-12 teachers to emphasize the use of hands on learning activities in science and mathematics.

Demoroom

The Demoroom provides demonstrations for all Physics classes.

On-Line Journals related to Physics

APS Research Journals

American Physical Society Research Journals

Virtual Journals in Science and Technology

This series of "virtual" journals in the physical sciences has been jointly developed by the American Institute of Physics (AIP) and the American Physical Society (APS). Each of the virtual journals presents an online collection of relevant papers from a broad range of "source" journals in the physical sciences. Participating source journals include all journals published by APS and AIP, journals from participating publishers on AIP's Scitation, Science, and Nature.
